[ of course the first people that he seeks out among the masses of new arrivals are them - an alliance cut short too early,an alliance that could have done so much more if not for his unfortunate death.

he knows he should be angry at them. should have been furious, when he found out about their betrayal from Dave in the middle of the week, but. it's mainly because the anger has simmered, but it's also because he knows that forced into that exact same situation, he would have done the same.

Except for the part where they unintentionally, one way or another, sent Tsurugi after Emily. Some things he can't forgive.

So there's no judgment on his part, and for a moment he just. looks at them. they look tired. he's not surprised.

Then he breaks the silence. ]

... that was a stupidly noble thing for you all to do.

[ and way too shounen. ]

[ WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING ON THURSDAY, SERIOUSLY.

There had been a sense of dread throughout this entire week, honestly, but the events culminating in today has basically exhausted his regular tolerance for Supernatural Bullshit. Not that it was high to begin with, but it was high enough, considering that he's seen some pretty extraordinary magical bullshit in his relatively short lifetime.

And it isn't even the weekend yet.

But yeah. As it is, after handling Ryou Bakura and his burns, now he's currently dealing with handling Chie, who has her hand amputated and. He's about 95% certain that he can feel the beginnings of a massive headache coming on.

His hands are surprisingly gentle, but steady, when he leads her over to her bed. Makes sure she's settled down and isn't in danger of immediately passing out from pain or what have you before he gives her a Look.

He's waiting for an explanation?? How the hell did that happen? ]

[ Of all the confrontations in the wake of the events of the previous week, this particular one is the one that he's dreading the most.

Because Light is clever and has an uncanny knack for reading between the lines, for hitting the nail on the head, and Seto's not going to lie - his pride is still smarting from when Light called him out at the trial this past weekend.

Because damn it, he had been afraid, reacting too quickly in a semi knee-jerk response because it's taken him years and he still hasn't recovered entirely from the trauma inflicted on him during Duelist Kingdom, still remembers in his nightmares the utter despair that comes from having his soul sealed away for a bizarre resurrection ritual.

So it's understandable when he's cornered by Light in the motel, that all Seto will do is scowl angrily, his arms folded, looking more defensive than usual. There's a challenge in his gaze though, the way his head is tilted upwards to be held high, regardless.

Cat got your tongue, Light? ]

[ If Girge was early enough, he would have seen Seto walk past him and his attempt at dismantling one of the guns in the lodge, and into the door which marks out the firing range.

More importantly, if Girge ventures down the firing range, he'll notice that Seto's handling one of the pistols in the range with all the familiarity of someone who knows what it's like to hold the weight of a gun in his hand, and he's unflinching even as he unloads one round of blanks into the dummies that serve as targets.

He's not wearing earplugs or goggles this time around - who has the luxury of doing that in real life? A firing range is too absurdly safe - which is why when Girge ventures beyond a certain point, in between the sharp crack of gun shots, Seto's going to notice, whirl around, his coat billowing out behind him, and level his gun right at the level in between Girge's eyes, cocked and ready to fire. ]

... If this were loaded, you'd be dead.

[ Thank goodness it's not, then, although Seto's eyes are narrowed slightly. It takes a couple of moments before he lowers the gun. It's still gripped in his hand tightly, but at least Girge isn't having a gun pointed to his face.

He hasn't spoken with Girge before aside from in passing, so it isn't even induced by the night terrors when he regards Girge with just a little bit of suspicion. ]

What brings you here?

[ One small victory. At least this week, even with the higher body count, they have not sent someone innocent to their deaths.

The lounge is cleaned up, which is also something that he's appreciated. He has two drinks in his hand - hard tequila in one, vodka in another. Both on the rocks.

How many weeks does it take to turn a person into an alcoholic?

When he sits down across from Andersen, his expression is surprisingly neutral, although he slides both drinks over to him, let him take his pick. After that... first impression of Andersen being completely drunk off his ass, it's not too difficult a conclusion to draw that Andersen probably appreciates alcohol. It works well as a friendly overture.

He'll take whichever glass Andersen doesn't take. ]

How's your arm?

[ Or rather, the lack of it. He reaches over to take the remaining glass, swirling the alcohol in it and hearing the ice clink against the glass. ]

Do you still suspect Tsurugi?

[ Yeah, he doesn't. Beat about the bush much. ]

[ On Tuesday morning, Seto is missing from the dining hall at breakfast.

The reason why is evident when Light and Yukina enter the hunting lodge and then subsequently the firing range - Seto has a pistol in his hand, and his concentration is on the stationary dummies that serve as targets littered throughout the firing range. From his stance, the way he handles the gun with intent, and the almost unflinching way that he fires blanks into dummies with an accuracy that only comes from training, it's easy to tell that Seto Kaiba is intimately familiar with the intricacies of a gun - even if said weapon provided by the lodge is several decades outdated.

When this round of ammunition has been expended, he'll turn around to reload the pistol with another round of blanks, although before he can do so, he'll do a slight double take and take out the earplugs in his ears (that's the only reason why he hadn't heard them approach, earlier).

Apparently he's lost track of time.

He's careful with the way he stows the gun away before he rejoins Light and Yukina. The gun may only have blanks, but he'd rather be safe than be accused of murder.

He frowns.

Perhaps it's just him, but Light and Yukina look exhausted. ]

... Rough night?

[ If this keeps up, he's going to develop some kind of alcohol addiction.

This isn't the first time that he's found himself in the lounge nursing a drink of some sort. But after the events of this morning's execution (although Seto privately thinks that it was more of a torture session than anything), he finds that he needs it more than ever.

He's not one to subscribe to the idea of luck, either, but there's just a feeling about this place that gives him the impression that from here on out, it's only going to get worse.

If he wants to survive this and get out of here alive, he'll need all the help that he can get.

Which is why he slides into the seat opposite Kaito Kuroba with a practiced nonchalance - he's found that if you act like nothing is wrong, people are less likely to poke into your business and/or overhear whatever you are actually talking about.

It's a useful skill, especially considering the conversation that he intends to have with Kaito. ]

Your cards. Are you up for a game?

[ Then again, a card game is also a good enough cover as any, he supposes. No one would suspect an alliance to be forged under the cover of a card game. ]

[ This... isn't really the best place to have a conversation. Even though Seto knows that the lounge is relatively quiet, there's still a risk of being overheard.

There's still a risk of getting caught.

They've sidestepped each other enough, and two people have died. One of them executed.

It's not like their hands are clean - he'd voted for Hana, damned her to that fate. He actually finds that he feels sympathy for Light, however little it may be. That execution was torture for torture's sake.

Seto Kaiba looks calm. Underneath the surface, he's anything but. He laughs. It sounds more like a cry of pain. ]

... I'm sorry you were forced to do it.

[ He'd thrown his dice for Kaito, actually, since Kaito had led the investigation.

Seto's not usually the one to lay his cards bare on the table, show his hand before he's collected all the winning cards. But if Seto wants to get out alive, he's going to make sure that he's allied with the right people.

There are forty people left in this place. Light Yagami is as good an ally as any. Seto's fairly certain that he knows the stakes for this game now that he's been forced to participate in it. ]

I don't like you very much. I don't trust you, either, but we both have a vested interest in wanting to get out of this place alive.

[ His gaze will flare, blazing and feverish, he'll give Light a swift and searching look. ]

No more lies. Today isn't the first time you've killed.

[ It's said with the conviction that he knows what it's like to have killed. ]

[ The thing about Seto Kaiba? He's always had anger simmering underneath his skin, and while it's taken some effort for it to surface over the course of the day, right now, it's mutated to something akin to fury.

Nothing about this is right (nevermind that this entire situation is hitting too close to home - wasn't it not too long ago that he had put Yugi Mutou and his friends into an elaborate death trap designed to kill them one by one?) and they've-- no, he, because of that damned voting slip-- sentenced Hana to die sometime tomorrow.

Someone else will have to kill her.

When Chie walks into their shared room just before curfew, his white duster is laid out on his bed, he hasn't made an effort to change out yet - he's driven his fist into the plaster of one of the walls in sheer frustration - his knuckles are bruised, probably bleeding but the pain isn't registering.

When he realises that Chie is in the room, he'll withdraw his fists. Make a visible effort to calm down. ]

[ It's not often that Seto Kaiba finds a drink in his hand - Gozaburo has drilled into him that he is a Kaiba and a Kaiba does not succumb to such juvenile vices, vices that could have controlled his precious heir.

Seto Kaiba gives exactly zero fucks about that right now, considering that he's about halfway through his glass of whiskey.

How can he, when he's had a hand in sending an innocent person to her death?

The people that he's killed before have been guilty, one way or another, even with the arbitrary standards of justice that he's imposed (owning the Blue Eyes White Dragon cards, which were rightfully his, had been considered a sin, but god that had been ages ago.)

So yeah, he's angry. Angry enough that he's not going to want to talk to anyone at first. At least, not anyone that he's unfamiliar with.

Ryou Bakura... doesn't exactly fall into either category. ]

[ The lounge table that he's picked is in a secluded enough corner that they can speak without being overheard, and it's although it's past ten, they're in no danger of being kicked out of the lounge before closing.

He doesn't exactly drink, more like only if the occasion calls for it, and honestly, with the events over the past weekend and having come into contact with some of the more... colourful characters in the motel, it's no wonder that he has a glass of whisky (Scottish, on the rocks) in his hand, which he sets down - the glass making an audible clink as its set down on the mirrored surface of the table. ]

I hope you didn't mind that I wanted to speak with you privately. [ It's something that has been bothering him throughout most of the day. ] Forgive me for eavesdropping on your conversation with Craftly, but you seemed interested in the Dark Room.
